Santa Cruz Training Day

The California Court Association held its most recent Training Day at the University Inn in beautiful Santa Cruz on Saturday, August 16, 2008.

The event was hosted by the gracious and hardworking staff of the Superior Court of Santa Cruz County.  The theme of the event was entitled, "Riding the Wave of Knowledge", and it could not have been better suited for this beautiful beach community nestled in between majestic redwoods, long sandy beaches and ocean cliffs.

The luncheon was held poolside, and the weather was absolutely beautiful.  During the lunch, guest speakers including Alex Calvo, CEO for Santa Cruz Superior Court; Assistant Executive Officer Pat Hammermaster; Christine Patton, Regional Administrative Director for AOC Bay Area/Northern Coastal Region, and Santa Cruz Judge Paul Marigonda, who addressed the group on various topics including the importance of work-life balance, the value of court employees, and the significance of CCA's training and networking opportunities.  Delicious food was served and great door prizes were given out to some lucky winners including wine-tasting for 30 people at a local Santa Cruz winery and a free weekend at a Santa Cruz beach house owned by one of the Santa Cruz Superior Court Judges.

On Friday and Saturday evening, many of us were fortunate enough to visit the Santa Cruz Boardwalk which is one of the last of the great seaside amusement parks in the United States.  A well-known beach band performed ‘60s and ‘70s surf music for the Friday night "Beach Party".
